Lifetime Sheds

An In-Depth Look at Lifetime Sheds – Are They a Good Buy?

Lifetime Sheds 5 x 8, One of their best selling shedsImage courtesy

JUST MADE THE DECISION TO ADD a garden shed to your backyard?

Now the fun begins.

There are so many different sheds on the market, it can drive you crazy trying to find the right one to fit your needs or budget. If you are basing your judgment of Lifetime sheds on the “plastic” sheds of years ago, you might be in for a nice surprise. These sheds are made to provide you with many years of reliable service.

So, today we are going to take at Lifetime brand polyethylene sheds, one of the leading brands on the market. We are going to look at what makes them so popular from the HDPE polyethylene used to make each part to the powder-coated steel reinforcement used throughout. These sheds are loaded with features many of the other brands simply don't offer or come up short on.

Today's Polyethylene Not What You Might Think

During the early days of polyethylene sheds, the materials used were simply not up to the job they were being tasked with. Often, these materials would fade and warp under the sun or become brittle and break in freezing temperature. In most cases, people who purchased these early sheds ended up angry and spending, even more, money on a wood or metal shed.

Lifetime continues to invest heavily in researching and developing stronger and better materials. The polyethylene materials used in Lifetime sheds are the result of this research. They have been tested to ensure they can stand up to anything Mother Nature has to hammer it with. The roofs are supported in some models with steel trusses to help ensure they can handle heavy snow loads.

The polyethylene used in Lifetime sheds incorporates special UV protectants to ensure it maintains its color without any signs of fading. The protectant also helps to ensure the sun's heat and UV rays will not cause the material to warp. Your lifetime shed will continue to look new for many years.

The Roof

Lifetime sheds feature a steeply pitched roof designed to ensure rain, snow, and ice can easily slide off, reducing the amount of load it must carry. For those of you who live in areas where it tends to snow significant amounts at a time, Lifetime sheds also feature powder coated steel A-frame style trusses for added support. Depending on the model you choose, your shed may feature a skylight to help provide you with plenty of natural daylight.  All skylights are fully sealed to keep water and snow out.

The Walls

Having a strong roof is only the beginning of what makes Lifetime sheds worth more than a second look. The walls are the most vital part of any structure, including a shed. This walls that offer very little in the way of structural strength or support are of very little use to anyone. Many low-cost sheds are built using single-wall polyethylene construction, making them weak and easily broken into. No one wants that.

Lifetime sheds are made using double-wall construction from high-density polyethylene (HDPE) construction and steel reinforcement. This material and design offer superior support, improved weather and theft protection, and exceptional good looks. One more thing you should know about double-wall construction is that the walls act in some ways like double-glazed windows by using the air gap as a form of insulation. The extra-thick polyethylene double-wall construction also helps to prevent rocks slung from under your lawn mower causing damage.

Metal vs Plastic Hardware

One of the most common complaints with many brands of polyethylene and resin sheds is that they use plastic hardware to assemble them. While there a few brands that seem to think their plastic hardware is more than strong enough for use in assembling a shed. The problem with this is that many of their customers find out the hard way that plastic hardware may not be their best option.

Lifetime sheds use steel hardware that has been treated to prevent rust. This hardware will not break under high winds or heavy loads like plastic hardware that can easily break under these conditions. Now imagine a shed that uses plastic hardware to secure the doors and keep thieves out. A determined thief can break into this type of shed in minutes. Lifetime sheds feature all-metal locking hardware to ensure your shed and its contents remain safe and sound.

Why Choose a Bolt-Together Shed?

There are a number of resin/polyethylene sheds designed to be assembled by snapping the parts together. While you might think that assembly should be simpler on these sheds, they can often be hard to actually get all the pieces to actually fit together. In many cases, a big rubber mallet has to be used. Then the first time a strong wind blows through your area, they blow apart so quickly it will blow your mind.

Sheds, such as those from Lifetime, that are assembled using the bolt-together method are far stronger and less likely to be affected by strong winds. While it might take longer to assemble this type of shed, the pieces tend to line up more quickly and the overall assembly is easier. The worst thing you have to do is set aside a little more time and patience to build the shed.

Built on a Strong Foundation

Another very common problem with many polyethylene sheds is that they come with a thin plastic floor or no floor at all. In many cases, you would be better off buying one that has no floor than one that has a thin single layer of plastic. Lifetime sheds come with a double-wall polyethylene non-slip floor that is reinforced for maximum weight capacity.

The material chosen for the floor is resistant to stains, oils, and solvents allowing you to make more use of your shed for things like storing lawn mowers, paints, solvents and just about anything else you can imagine. You should, however, build a strong platform or foundation to set your shed on. You can pour a concrete slab, make a foundation from pavers, create one from gravel, or simply flatten out the ground (though this is not recommended).

I would like to make it clear that although I did buy Ryan's Shed Plans myself, I do recieve a commission if you purchase the product after clicking the links on this page

DON'T WORRY though, the price doesn't change if you buy through a link on this or any other website, or even if you type it into your browser yourself

The commission goes into helping make better resources around Garden DIY and shed building...

Anyhow enough of the fine print, lets destruct Ryan's Shed Plans and find out what's really included with the product and what the plans are really like

[VIDEO] Part 1 - Buying Ryan's Shed Plans

Please excuse the audio, this is my first ever video

[VIDEO] Part 2 - Opening Ryan's Shed Plans

Overall - What we thought of Ryan's Shed Plans

Use: Shed Plans

Some plans are very detailed, some aren't

Price is very good for the offering

Ease of Use

Can be hard to find what you want

Dedicated support line. 48 hour answers

We Like:

  • The price is very reasonable for this amount of plans
  • The detail of some of the plans is fantastic
  • A lot of bonuses

We Don't Like:

  • We can't find 12,000 shed plans which is what we are purchasing
  • Some plans aren't detailed enough in our opinion
  • The extra purchases Ryan wants you to make

Summary: A good affordable resource of shed plans that everyone can afford. However, this collection of shed plans isn't as comprehensive as Ryan makes out, and finding what you want can take some effort.

From $37 with a 60 day 100% money back guarantee

What is the Biggest Issue With the Plans?

There are some people unhappy with this product after they purchase it. In fact after reading through some comments some people are even offended!

The reasons that people aren't happy seems to be:

  • There are a lot of plans for sheds and other things. However, I can't seem to find all of the 12,000 shed plans in the package
  • When you buy you get asked to upgrade a lot... which can be off putting and confronting for some people
  • As you can see in my 'unboxing' video the membership site looks dated which can put people off a bit
  • It can take some time to find the shed plan that you want (20 minutes and you will have it sussed out with our tips below)
  • Some of the plans don't provide as much detail as people may expect. The promotional freebies of Ryan's Shed Plans are really good. Not all the plans are as detailed and carefully constructed.

The main issue is people don't feel like they are getting what they ordered (less shed plans, not as detailed as they thought etc.). But when you compare Ryan's offering to what else is available, you see what good value it is...

And although I dont think there are 12,000 shed plans in the package, there are A LOT OF PLANS. Many times more than one person will ever build for themselves

Buying a custom plan would cost you around $250 which is over 6 times more than Ryan's collection of shed plans

And buying an off the shelf plan (something like this) from Amazon would set you back $10. So doing that 4 times already puts you over the price of Ryan's Shed Plans

So for $37, the value in Ryan's offering is very good

You can read more on what others are thinking here

Where do the plans come from?

Ryan says that he writes the plans and im sure that he does some

However a lot of them seem to be from different sources... i.e. universities, magazines (such as better homes and gardens), and various websites

I assume that Ryan has bought the copyright to these plans, the copyright has expired or there never was a copyright on them in the first place

But to be honest, it doesn't really matter to me who provides, writes, draws or creates the plans (as long as it's all legal)

As long as the plans are easily understood and show how to build a great sturdy shed that will last

What are the quality of the plans like?

Ryans Shed Plans Contents Guide on Shed Plan

This set of plans is very detailed and even comes with a contents guide

The plans are detailed in the most part...

The plans generally include elevation drawings, sizes and annotations (notes on the drawings)

Some are very detailed and even provide a step-by-step guide, 3-D drawings along with photos taken mid construction of the shed. Along with material and cutting lists, a glossary of terms, as well as hints and tips of shed building

Some are simple. They are scanned construction and elevation plans without any of the added extras. (They are plans to get a permit)

Although all the detail may be on the plans to build a shed, they aren't all friendly for the new person getting started

Ryans Shed Plan Review Detailed Shed Plan

Although they do show detail, some plans aren't as comprehensive and aren't suggested for the beginner shed builder

What happens when you buy the plans?

Firstly if you haven't watched the unboxing video at the top of the page, then it is a screen recording of me going through the process of purchasing the plans

But in a quick summary, you are taken to a page where you put your details and and payment method. Then enter your details (or login to Paypal).

When that is done Ryan takes you through 3 pages where he offers some upgrades on the plans... Upgraded plans i think he calls it, then outdoor plans and then everything he sells he offers you

After that you check your email and he will send you a link to the membership section of the site where you download the plans you want.

**NOTE - You can't download everything in one go. The plans are in bundles of 10-20. You need to go down the page and download what you want. (It might take 20 minutes if you want to download all the plans including the bonuses.)

Navigating through the plans

The plans are generally easy to follow if you use these steps:

  • Scroll down and read the entire page when you get access to it
  • Right click and save the plans that you want to your computer
  • Use Chrome internet browser or Adobe Reader to open and read the plans on your computer
  • Use the FIND search bar (Hold Ctrl + F on windows, Cmd + F on Mac) function to find any particular plans in the large multi-plan documents

Because of how many plans there are, some users get frustrated at trying to find what they want. But if you follow the steps above, you will find what you are looking for if it is there.

Summary -"What Do I Do Now...?"

If the review helped you, and you are ready to get your copy of Ryan's Shed Plans then please use the link below

YES, I do receive a commission from the sale of Ryan's Shed Plans, but the price of the product doesn't change for you. It is still $37 whether you use this link, or any other link on the internet - or even type it into the search bar yourself

The commission helps me go onto create valuable resources for everyone to use on

Other Reviews...

Because this is a popular program there are a lot of reviews. Many of them are bias and should be ignored.

However I have found some reviews that seem to be real.

Below are the reviews that I believe are honest and you can make a decision from

Thanks for Reading

I hope this has cleared up Ryan's Shed Plans for you and you can now make a decision either way

If your stuck then you can send me a message via the contact page and ill get back to you as soon as I can with an answer
