The 4 Most Popular 8 x 6 Plastic Sheds for Your Yard

The 4 Most Popular 8 x 6 Plastic Sheds, and Buyers Guide

suncast_storage_shed

Here are some things to consider in buying a plastic shed.

8 x 6 IS ABOUT the most popular shed size in the country.

It’s not too small to be restrictive but not to large to take up half your yard.

And when you buy a 8 x 6 plastic shed, it gives you the good looks without the maintenance and excess cost

But how do you know you're getting a good deal?

We’ve shopped around a little and had a look at some of the common pitfalls shed owners have with their new sheds. To help you avoid them, here is a brief overview of what to look out for in an 8 x 6 plastic shed.

The 5 Quality Checks for 8 x 6 Shed Buyers

Doorway Size

Small doorway size makes it tough or impossible to get your mower, garden furniture and other large items into the shed.

Extra Shelving

Many plastic shed companies make their sheds to take their shelving and accessories only. It is something to think about if you don’t think you can make these parts yourself as it is an extra expense

Delivery

This isn’t your fault, but you do wear it if you receive damaged goods so be vigilant here. Make sure if you have any say in it that the delivery of your shed is by a reputable company.

If your boxes arrive broken and damaged you need to ring the company immediately and let them know.

If you purchase through Amazon.com let them know also. Unfortunately, broken plastic shed parts are forever broke. Unlike metal or wood, they cannot be ‘made to fit’ once distorted.

Flimsy

Thin plastic walls should be a dealbreaker. Reading existing customer reviews will help you identify this.

If you plan on buying online you can also compare the ‘shipping weight’ between sheds. This will give you some kind of concrete guide to the mass of the shed

Height

The shed needs to be tall enough for your long handled garden tools and you

suncast_storage_shed

This handy plastic shed from Suncast offers windows on both sides of the double doors and a skylight to provide you with plenty of natural lighting.

It is built from durable double wall plastic for extra strength with steel reinforced roof panels that make it the obvious choice for those who live in the snow belt.

Bolt together panels not only make it easy to assemble, they also make it one of the strongest plastic sheds on the market.

The heavier duty plastic used to create this shed make it a good choice for those who live in areas with moderate snowfall.

PROS

CONS

Short assembly time, approx. 2 hours even for someone with little to no experience

Lots of brackets to figure out during assembly which can be confusing and slow down the process

Very stable thanks to the double wall construction, which is good for windy/snowy climates

Some parts are not labeled with part numbers, again this can slow down assembly

Bolt together assembly instead of snap fit adds to the overall strength

PROS

CONS

Steel reinforced vinyl panels add a lot of extra strength to the shed

Challenging to assemble, requires some experience and quite a few hand tools

Doors are double wall for added security and have a place to secure your shed with a padlock

Walls are single wall which makes them flimsy in appearance

Wind tested to 115 mpg snow load tested at 1000 or 20 lbs./sq. ft.

keter_manor_large_shed

KETER Manor Large Storage Shed

The Keter Manor comes with a single fixed window for natural light and double doors that are big enough for your riding lawn mower.

It offers ventilation at the top to allow chemical fumes to escape into the atmosphere. It also comes with a floor panel so that you don’t have to build a foundation or platform for it to sit on.

When you first open the box, it might seem that the plastic panels are somewhat flimsy, but once assembled, you will find the Keter Manor to be quite sturdy as all of the parts are designed to fit together quite snugly.

Another plastic shed that has been designed for areas with lots of rain, snow, and wind.

PROS

CONS

Large double doors that make it easy for you to get just about anything in or out

No predrilled holes for assembly, which means you kind of have to guess where the screws and bolts go

Has a window for natural light which helps you to not have to install any kind of electric lighting

Screws rust quickly as they are not stainless or galvanized, you should consider replacing them before you start assembly

Ventilation at top lets fumes like those from your lawn mower's gas, paint, solvents, etc. out

Raised lip at door makes sweeping out difficult and can make moving anything with small wheels out of your shed challenging

Choosing the Right Plastic 8 x 6 Shed

There is no easy way to decide which of these 8 x 6 plastic garden sheds comes out the clear winner. All are in the same basic price range and offer similar storage space.

If you are looking for easy to build solid construction, the Keter Factor is the clear winner with its snap together assembly.

On the other hand, if you can deal with drilling the necessary holes, the Keter Manor has a lot to offer.

Bear in mind that any shed with double walls and steel reinforcement is likely to provide you with a longer lifespan and stand up to the weather more effectively.

This guy could use an 8x6 shed

An 8×6 shed is great for storing your push mower, bike, garden equipment and those items your better half won’t let you keep in the house anymore.

This size is also good at sneaking under the HOA or city/county permit requirements (be sure to check your local authorities.) So an 8×6 can save you some time, paperwork, hassle and grey hairs.

There are a few good value sheds of this size around, so we have put together a list of them.

*We have linked them to Amazon, because they reliably have most sheds that are available. However many of these sheds are also available at home depot, lowes, Wal-Mart and eBay.

Enjoy.

8 x 6 Shed Comparison Table

Lifetime outdoor backyard shed

Outdoor Backyard Organizer by Lifetime

New kid on the block

Many plastic sheds try to look older than they are. This one embraces modern a little more with contrasting colors make the shed pop compared to other plastic sheds.

Inside and structurally you will find this shed like most other plastic sheds. Double doors, a high ceiling, and some natural light. In this case in the form of a shed long skylight.

And like many others, this plastic shed is not just plastic. The wall construction involves two panels on the outside and inside, then steel reinforcements in-between (like stud walls). The real difference is the modern design.

Overall:

It’s a fresher look and a foot bigger than the other Lifetime model, but it does cost extra too. See how much here.

PROS CONS
Modern looking design A little pricey
High roof and doors More shelves are added extras

Legacy 8x6 Wood Garden Shed

Legacy 8 x 6 Wood Garden Shed

Want to set yourself apart?

This is a beautiful shed. We love the look of wood sheds, but the window and door features really set this one apart. The flower boxes and shutters not only let natural light into the shed, but they look great.

Unlike some wood shed kits, with this one everything is included, even the floor kit. However, you do pay for the executive treatment. This shed is by far the most expensive 6×8 shed we could find.

If you want to make a statement, and want a jewel for your garden, then this is it.

Overall:

PROS CONS

Will suit any yard You will want to live in it

Duramax Vinyl storage shed

DuraMate Vinyl Storage Shed

When you don’t have much choice…

The shed looks small and bland until you realize that it has been designed around strict HOA height regulations. The height is kept low to stay under fencelines, and the color is an off white (ivory)as to “keep the status quo”.

This may put some homeowners off, but the shed has also been designed with strength in mind. It has been tested against 115Mph winds and a heavy snow load.

The benefits don’t stop there. Vinyl is a good insulator (its used on electric kettles) and when combined with metal columns the shed becomes quite strong and sturdy.

Overall:

A strong contender for best value shed, although it looks quite bland. See the exact price here.

PROS CONS
Most HOA’s will like it Plain looking

If you like spending time in the garden and need a place for your tools and equipment then this shed fits the bill.

It looks nice, like every plastic shed you save yourself from any maintenance, or rot and rust issues.

Like you’d expect in a standard shed the doors are lockable and the shed doesn’t leak (if built on a flat surface.) Unlike a standard shed you get a high door opening (6.3ft), skylights for natural light, and plenty of shelving options. There are also vents for airflow and ventilation.

The plastic cladding has imprinted wood grain to give a wood look, but this shed isn’t the same as a wood shed. It’s not as strong or as sturdy, but it’s not expensive either.

Overall:

This shed has been produced by Lifetime for a while, and keeps getting strong reviews here.

PROS CONS
Good value Needs a flat level surface
Plenty of natural light A little bland looking

It also comes with a foundation (so no extra costs there) vents and a window so its pleasant to be inside.

The manufacturer says you could work in it, but it’s probably a little small for that.

Overall:

A great all-rounder if it suits your house, or you are willing to paint it. More details here.

If your house is exposed wood, or your property is very leafy and you don’t want a light colored shed sticking out like a sore thumb, then this is a good get.

Underneath the forest chameleon like exterior, the shed is your basic metal shed. It has metal panels treated against rust and corrosion, sliding lockable doors to keep the pests at bay and all for a very reasonable price.

Flower house

Walk-In Storage House – XXL

Storage on the go

First of all we are first to say that this is a tent not a shed, and realy should be treated as a tent. It isn’t for year round reliable storage.

Not only is there next to no security, but the flower house is light. It does come with ground anchors, but it is most likely that your items will be what keeps this shed on the ground in moderate to strong winds.

The positives about this storage tent are that the price is right, and its quick and easy to set up. But do you really want to put your garden equipment in this?

Overall:

Good for something that locks itself i.e. motorbike or ATV, or for extra storage whilst camping. Read some reviews from people who thought this was a cheap answer to a wood shed here.

PROS CONS
Easy to set up Flimsy
Cheap No security
